Døving has previously worked with food, meal structure, gender, tourism, leisure, border trade, product formation, consumption theory and informal economy. Through his career he has also authored and published, among other publications, Rype med lettøl. En antropologi fra Norge and held his role as a columnist for brands in Dagens Næringsliv. Døving is also a member in Mannsrolleutvalget and a council member in Norwegian Cultural Heritage.
Runar Døving is a professor in social anthropology at Kristiania University College and has worked as a researcher for 15 years for Consumption Research Norway (SIFO) where he has participated in field work in Spain and its surrounding area, Østfold, Karasjok as well as California. His work is centralized on kinship, inheritance and testamentary gifts.
